/ Video Sandbox International Exchange Program I: Critical Point

Critical Point is presented as part of an international exchange program between ALIEN Art Centre and Ox Warehouse (牛房倉庫), Macao. A leading non-profit independent art organization in Macao — formerly known as the Old Ladies’ House Art Space — Ox Warehouse has long center its work on alternative, experimental contemporary practice, devoting itself to arts advocacy and the nurturing of emerging talent, while continually organize cross-regional exchange programs that have made it a vital platform for contemporary art in Macao.

Taking a dialogue between two cities and two institutions as its point of departure, this exchange brings the moving-image practice of an emerging Macao artist to Kaohsiung. At the meeting point of the cultural contexts of Macao and Taiwan, the moving image becomes a medium that crosses the boundaries of geography and experience; through animation and experimental video, the artist translates a personal sense of time, life, and existence into a shared visual language, opening a cross-regional act of mutual seeing within the historic site of ALIEN Art Centre.

Within this context, Critical Point responds not only to the individual’s perception of time, but to how contemporary life holds its balance between acceleration and stasis — poised, yet on the brink. As the moving image becomes a vehicle for the movement of thought, time slips away from habitual bodily sensation and the incomprehensible gradually becomes routine. The work poses a question about our present condition: when thought is endlessly accelerated while the body is left behind, how might we recover even a trace of restoration within that imbalance.


Critical Point

Thoughts race ahead while the body stays behind — are we living, or merely surviving?

Critical Point (2026) is a dual-channel experimental animation structured around the themes of time and motion through four scenes: “The Meaning of Equilibrium,” “Critique from the World,” “The Meaning of Burning Out,” and “Living or Surviving?” Each scene can be viewed through a distinct color lens, transforming perspectives and reflecting a world that maintains balance yet teeters on the brink; time slips away from habitual bodily sensations, the incomprehensible becomes routine, thoughts accelerate while the body is left behind, revealing a sense of powerlessness. The soundtrack weaves together the healing frequencies of 528 Hz, 432 Hz, and alpha waves, seeking gentle restoration within the movement of thought.
